The Nature Directives that come from the EU protect sites of nature, the impact of intensive farming, the use of pesticides and over grazing.  As you know nature doesn’t recognise national borders, having a common understanding across Europe of how nature can be protected strengthens the protection for all.

Countries in the EU are banned from using three bee-harming pesticides.  If we weren’t in the EU, they would still be in use in the UK.  We need bees because they pollinate many of our food crops and wild flowers.

Since 1900, the UK has lost 20 species of bee.  A further 35 bee species are considered to be under threat of extinction.
