Connection,
rooted in place.

An ecologically informed wellbeing programme cultivating belonging through shared listening in local landscapes.

01

Ecosystem Listening

Shared listening within a living landscape shifts attention from social performance to ecological awareness, allowing connection to emerge naturally.

02

Structured Belonging

A structured programme progression provides containment and continuity, creating the conditions for trust and social ease to develop.

03

Place-Based Continuity

Returning to one consistent landscape fosters familiarity and attachment, embedding belonging within place rather than momentary interaction.

Designed Differently

Soundscape-Led Connection

Shared listening to the living ecological soundscape forms the foundation of connection - reducing conversational pressure and enabling social trust to develop through attuned, shared awareness.

Ecological Systems Design

The programme applies principles from landscape ecology — continuity, interdependence and structured progression, intentionally shaping belonging through repeated engagement with one consistent place.

What is Nature Connections?

Nature Connections is a soundscape-centred, ecologically informed initiative designed to strengthen belonging and wellbeing through shared listening within living landscapes. For adults experiencing social disconnection, life transition, or seeking meaningful place-based belonging.

Rather than relying on conversation as the primary means of connection, it guides attention toward the ecological rhythms of a local place – canopy, water, biodiversity, seasonal change – reducing social pressure and creating space for connection to emerge naturally.

Delivered in small groups across a defined structured progression, participants return to one consistent landscape, building familiarity, confidence and psychological safety through shared experience. The programme is preventative and non-clinical, intentionally structured to cultivate sustained connection between people and place.

Woodland River

Delivered under Edge Ecologic CIC, Nature Connections is led by Dr Jo Maloney, an environmental scientist from Wales – with over 30 years’ experience in landscape ecology, biodiversity, bioacoustics and environmental education.

Cultivating Sustainable Connections

Nature Connections is a preventative, place-based intervention developed in response to rising social disconnection within local communities. It addresses loneliness not through activity alone, but through structured relational design rooted in landscape. This work unfolds slowly, through repeated time together in one living landscape. The programme is intentionally designed to:

• Reduce social pressure within small-group settings
• Build confidence through supported engagement with local landscapes
• Support emotional regulation through guided ecological listening
• Strengthen attachment to place
• Cultivate belonging through structured repetition and shared experience

By centring shared ecological awareness rather than conversation alone, the programme creates the conditions for connection to develop gradually and sustainably. Nature Connections applies ecological systems thinking to how human connection forms and endures – it is not simply an activity, but a relational ecology in practice.
